Over Christmas, game play sessions with families generated lots of laughs and spirit. Adventures is a good game and I'm keen to finish it. However, as a game developer friend of mine pointed out, you need a single-player experience as that's how any game is going to be played most of the time, and that's some months' work. The problem is generating public interest, essential for something like crowd-funding, and operating as a business. There's a Catch 22 between generating content that interests people and getting funding to make content. Work on Adventure's doesn't currently generate a lot of great social media content, which needs videos and artwork, and won't until the single player mechanics are developed.
So over Christmas I looked at an old networked-game idea and how to rework it into a simple single player title, and saw something special in a different way to Adventures - a game on mobile that plays as well as a console game! If you're not a 'gamer', the sort who plays on console or PC or 3DS/Vita, this won't interest you. But ever since I got my first smartphone and expected all sorts of 16-bit era type games, I've wanted to bring proper gaming to touch screens, and I've just done this! Over the next couple of weeks I'll be talking about novaWARS, and being verbose about it!
It's exciting because novaWARS is in a publicly playable state, save some polish. Should be able to get a lot more people on board and backing its development. Adventures will then pick up in a stronger position.
